This Sheppard’s pie is one of our family’s favorite recipes. We have been enjoying it over the years as it is one of my wife’s favorite meals. You can call it a party-size recipe for how much food it makes. It makes so much that it is great for leftovers as well.

The history of this dish dates back to the 18th century in Scotland and Northern England, made by homemakers in need of a meaty potato dinner. It was originally made with leftover meats making it a very convenient option for dinner. This was originally called cottage pie when they mainly used beef. Later after Shepherd’s started using lamb meat instead of beef and renamed it after themselves. Our modern-day recipe uses ground beef, it’s easy to cook and very accessible. I hope you like our easy Shepherd’s pie recipe.
