This is a super tasty Japanese dish called Donburi. It is a rice bowl that offers a variety of styles, including this one, which is gyudon. This recipe has thinly sliced, stir-fried beef and onions with a sauce. It’s a perfect combo of beef, veggies, and rice. You will enjoy our combo of Donburi.

The first true donburi created was named unadon, made with grilled eel over rice, created in the early 19th century for theater patrons to eat quickly.
Meiji Era was a crazy transition period from the past to a more modern superpower. Part of it was Japan lifting some restrictions on meat; this ban made it so people could eat livestock meat. This brought a lot of Western influences since they had more food to cook. It helped with the creation of gyudon (beef bowls) in the 1890s.
After World War Two donburi gained a lot of popularity. They had rapid economic growth after the war helped transform donburi into an amazing fast-casual household staple food for Japanese families.

- Beef stir-fry style thinly sliced
- Dashi base (you can purchase on Amazon)

Method
- Mix the dashi base, water, and sugar, then marinate the beef in a bowl for half an hour with the dashi base.
- Start cooking the rice after the 1/2 hour, according to the rice you pick.
- Heat the oil, then cook the beef until browned on each side before setting aside.
- Cook the onions for 2 mins on medium heat. Add flour and cook for another 2 mins. Add Dashi liquid, then simmer until the sauce thickens, about 10-20 mins. Heat the meat in the sauce for a few minutes.
- In a bowl of your cooked rice, move the beef onto the rice, then decorate with onions, carrots, cabbage, and chives. Then pour some sauce on the rice.
