Corndogs

Crispy, battered hot dogs with your choice of sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • Yellow cornmeal 1 1/2 cups/240 grams
  • All-purpose flour 1 1/4 cups/190 grams
  • Baking powder 1 Tsp/ 4 grams
  • Salt 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper 1/2 tsp
  • 1 3/4 Buttermilk 1 3/4 Cup/390 grams
  • large egg 1
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil 1 Tbsp/ 7 grams
  • 1/4 Honey 1/4 cup/ 80 grams
  • Corn dog sticks 6-inch recommended
  • 14 hot dogs

Method
 

  1. Heat oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine buttermilk, egg, oil, and honey, then mix until combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk or use an electric mixer to blend until well combined.
  5. Dry off hot dogs with paper towels before poking the sticks through them.
  6. Transfer all the batter to a tall drinking glass.
  7. Dip a hot dog (one at a time) completely in the batter and hold it in the oil for 5-7 seconds before dropping it in the oil. (Up to 3 in the oil at a time)
  8. Cook for 3 mins or until brown; place on a sheet pan to drain any excess oil.
  9. Serve with your favorite sauce.
